The
Calico Barn is a short walk away from the river with almost immediate
access to the water meadows and onto the Avon Valley Walk, which runs
from Salisbury to the South Dorset coast. It provides a warm and cosy
'bolt-hole' with plenty of character and charm and with good use made
of available space. Entrance into small hallway. Access to a
bathroom/wc with 3/4 size bath and shower attachment to the bath. Sitting
room with Jotul woodburner, semi open-plan to a kitchen with fitted
cupboards and dining area. Connecting door to a double bedroom with
open tread, carpeted stairs to a loft bedroom with single bed.
Small brick wall enclosed, paved patio area with garden furniture at the entrance to the barn. |

With
its origins in the 18th century, this small brick and timber barn
stands alongside an ancient longhouse in the village of Downton, which
straddles the River Avon on the borders of Wiltshire and Hampshire.
Downton is just three miles to the north of the New Forest's unique
landscape with the many opportunities it affords to visitors for
walking, cycling and riding. From Downton there is also easy access to
the South Dorset coast with Bournemouth and Poole being about half an
hour's drive. Downton itself is an attractive village, with many
attractive, ancient cottages lining its main street and village green.
The Cuckoo Fair at the beginning of May is a well known event. The
village provides for local shopping needs while the Cathedral city of
Salisbury is a fifteen minute drive away and Southampton about half an
hour. |
